Senno Museum of Local History

The Senno Local History Museum was founded on August 30, 1995 by the decision of the Senno District Executive Committee, and has been open to the public since September 1, 1995. The museum is located in the building of the former zemstvo council with a demonstration area of 327 m2, built in 1910. in a civil style with elements of classicism according to an individual plan at non-state funds. There are no permanent exhibitions in the museum. The exhibition halls display temporary exhibitions from the funds of the museum, private collections. The total number of museum items is 3804, of which the main fund - 3210, scientific auxiliary - 594.

The museum has developed and conducts thematic, sightseeing tours, museum classes "I love my city", "Son of the Senno land", "We invite you to the evening", "Proverbs and sayings of wartime", "Belarus is the country of my future". The museum takes part in the international action "Night of Museums". It has become a tradition to hold the wedding ceremony "Wedding Ceremony in the Senno way" in the museum. The museum was awarded the Diploma of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus for participation in the First National Forum "Museums of Belarus", Grodno, October 12-14, 2012.

In 1941, the Great Patriotic War began, during the summer battles the city was captured several times by the Nazi troops, and then fought back as a result of a counterattack by the Red Army. However, the forces were unequal, so the Soviet troops retreated. From 1941 to 1944, Senno remained in the hands of the Nazis. A quarter of the pre-war population were Jews, almost all died in the Senno ghetto.
